Take Me at my Word

I love giving aspiring writers space on this blog!  Meghan has written for me before.  I love her simplicity and non-nonsense approach to life.  Hope you enjoy her thoughts as much as I did!

“There is nothing special about these people, they just took Me at My word”.

Those were the words God spoke to me about 6 years ago while I was sitting on my couch reading my bible. He was telling me that I was not reading about a book of superheroes – but a book of people who chose to take God at His word and because of that did wondrous things. You see the normal christian life was never meant to have some people running around seeing miracles, signs, wonders, loving God & others like crazy … and some not.  That is for ALL of us!  The normal christian life was meant to be this: you take God at His word, walk with Him and watch Him do His thing.

I have been a missionary for almost two years and I am just now realizing this: my time as a missionary is actually preparing me how to live the normal christian life for the rest of my life! It is teaching me how to take Him at His word and refuse to believe anything else! You see, He is using my passion to transform me into the image of His Son.

For those God foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brothers. (Romans 8:29)

The truth is that whatever you are doing; whether a missionary, teacher, pastor, friend, real estate agent, stay at home mom, college student, a Starbucks barista, honestly ANYTHING – His plan for you is the same. He is using whatever you are doing to transform you into the image of His Son & to teach you to take Him at His word and refuse to believe anything else. The paths and methods may look different than someone else’s, but remember God is no respecter of persons.  Strip away all the titles in this world and we are all moving toward the same goal – to look more and more like Jesus. Like a furously passionate lover, He won’t waste a single thing in your life – He wastes nothing.

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)

Everything in your life, if you allow it, will take you toward the ultimate goal – resembling Jesus.

For me the last two months has looked like co-leading a seven week outreach to Costa Rica. I faced almost every fear I have. God brought things to the surface in my heart I would not have known were there unless I had been leading, and I grew a ton.  Any position, any form of anything – God will do just as much in you as in the people you are leading, ministering to or helping.  This is wisdom that a quite incredible woman shared with me on the trip.

Let this be a reminder to your soul: You were made to bear much fruit, you were made to resemble Jesus. You were made to believe Him – so go and live the life you were always meant to live! Free!! Taking God at His word – every single word – for there is no other way to live!

Oh your grace so free

Washes over me

You have made me new

Now life begins with you

It’s your endless love

Pouring down on us

You have made us new

Now life begins with you
