My Golden Girls

14752826838561It’s been almost two weeks since I posted a blog. My beloved iMac bit the dust and I find it really difficult to write via a cell phone! I am apologizing ahead of time  for any spacing errors, paragraph  snafus, excetera from trying to blog from my phone  🙂 I’ve also recently adopted two rescue dachshunds that were originally surrendered in Louisiana due to the bad weather they have experienced over the past few months. These pooches have eaten up a lot of my time but I wouldn’t trade it for the world. This family went 5 months without dogs after we lost our last little guy on Mother’s Day. I felt it important to give my family time to grieve the loss of Buddy before replacing the loss.

I have long said that there is a reason why God not only highlighted animals in the Bible but specifically dogs as being our friends. Did you ever realize that dog is God spelled backwards? I believe it’s because they have many attributes of our heavenly father. For instance most dogs seem to love us unconditionally regardless of how we behave. Most dogs are extremely happy to see us and fellowship with us regardless of how long or how short we’ve been away from them. If they are not in a severely abusive situation they easily forget the record of wrongs that we may have committed against them. Most dogs are concerned when we are upset and will come and comfort us. I don’t know about you but I think that these are many of the attributes of our Heavenly Father.

Let me introduce you… Rosie is on the left and she is the protector and now the alpha dog of the house. She is a bit guarded and a little more introverted then her sister but when she needs to rise up and be the leader, when someone knocks at the door, she is no longer timid and shy. Blanche on the right is outgoing and friendly and sweet and came into the house as the alpha dog but quickly took a back seat and let her sister fall into that position. I have to treat them differently because their personalities are so different. The Lord also works so intimately and intricately with each one of us. He created us each different and tailors His interaction with us based on our personalities, talent, level of spiritual growth, Etc.

Rose and Blanche are estimated to be somewhere between five and six years old so they have developed patterns that were probably normal to them that no longer happen in my home (I wish they could talk.)  They have had to learn to fall into my routine and rhythm for the day and I have had to learn to appease them and allow their free will to direct some of our daily rituals. I feel like the Lord does the same for us. He gave us free will yet is faithful to give us loving and guided direction if we’re willing to stay on a short leash and humble ourselves enough to take that direction. If you’ve been walking with the Lord for a while you know when you allow yourself to be yoked with Jesus (His spiritual leash), He takes the weight and the burdens and gently guides. Then you have the opportunity to live in peace knowing that the Creator of the universe has taken the reins.

Matthew 11:28-30

Come on to me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and you shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

They are so full of gratitude for being rescued… Aren’t you?

Be blessed

  1. I look at them and see the sweetness. I see (maybe in the spiritual realm) their gratitude at having found a home where they will be loved and understood. They couldn’t have found a better place than your house for that! Only a consummate counselor would also apply counseling wisdom to understanding the uniqueness of two new pups! So wonderful. The blessings will be reciprocal! xoxox
