The Toe, the Foot and the Strong

I started this post in February and could not finish it.  I know today is the right day for someone out there to catch this concept.  I hope it gives you an aha moment about something in your life that the Lord wants to remove.

Today I want to focus on the negative things in our lives that can become a stronghold.  How does this happen?  It all begins with a toehold. I once heard this saying and it had a huge impact on me:  First Satan gets a toehold, then if not removed, it becomes a foothold.  After that it becomes a stronghold.

The definition of a toehold is a means of progressing or a slight footing.  A means of gaining access. A slight advantage.

When the enemy of our soul gets a little access into our lives through a lie, (remember, he is the father of lies) he can gain a toehold or slight advantage.  This happens in our mind.

Once this door is cracked open in our thoughts, we are responsible to take that thought captive before it becomes a foothold.

2 Corinthians 10:5

We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ,

Simply put, replace the unhealthy or unholy thought with a healthy, holy one.  For instance if you thought something negative about someone, confess immediately to God and then think about something good about that person.  Replace the thought.

If a toehold hangs around long enough it will now become a foothold.  The definition of a foothold is a position usable as a base for further advance.

Say for instance, you didn’t replace the negative thought you had about the person we just mentioned.  If allowed to gain a foothold, you may begin to speak to others about that person in a complaining manner (gossip).

Another great example would be if you allow yourself to start to worry about money and finances instead of relying on God.  If you don’t take care of those thoughts, they will eventually have a solid foothold in your relationship with money.  Worry and fear will begin to further advance in your relationship to finances.

The final stage is a full blown stronghold.  A stronghold is described as a fortified place :  a place of security or survival.

Isaiah 30:2

Who proceed down to Egypt Without consulting Me, To take refuge in the stronghold of Pharaoh And to take shelter in the shadow of Egypt!

For those of you who read your Word, you understand that Egypt symbolizes the world and it’s unholy tactics regarding relationships, finances, addictions, etc.  When we rely on Egypt for security, we go into survival mode. This is the place where irreparable damage can happen in relationships, etc. because we are no longer in control.

These things can become strongholds when we crack the door open and allow Satan to get his toe in the door.  We are all human and this will certainly happen.  Sometimes we don’t need the enemies’ help at all.  Our flesh does just fine getting into trouble without his assistance.  The key is recognizing when the toehold happens and take care of it immediately.

The bible is very clear about the only stronghold that we are to have in place in our lives.  That stronghold is the Lord.  That stronghold equals safety and security.  Egypt will NEVER be safe and secure.

Psalm 18:2

The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and the One who rescues me; My God, my rock and strength in whom I trust and take refuge; My shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower—my stronghold.
I would encourage you to do a word study on or your favorite online bible app and read through the scriptures about strongholds.  You will clearly see that with the Lord as your strong tower, no toehold will be able to advance in your life!
Be Blessed
