The mountain of intercession

SDI2823

The land is so flat in South Jersey that I don’t get the opportunity to challenge myself on hills and inclines while running unless I’m on the treadmill and can manually adjust the setting.  When I am out of state and visiting other places, I realize how unchallenged physically I have been when I am forced to scale the hills!

I have two inclines to tackle in my adjoining neighborhood and I don’t mind admitting that it’s a challenge for me.  Almost every time I take that particular route I seem to be praying and interceding for something or someone as I’m running up the hill. I think intercession is much like climbing a hill or scaling a mountain.  What exactly is intercession?  http://www.merriam-webster.com says:

  1.  the act of interceding

2.  prayer, petition, or entreaty in favor of another

If you are a parent, you are more than likely a regular intercessor!  I know that many of you have been called into a deeper place of intercession for our world, our country, the election, family members, etc.  Sometimes we love to intercede for others and consider it an honor and a privilege.  Other times it can feel like you are dragging another 100 pounds up a hill with no energy.  I find that the times it seems hard is if I am called to pray for someone that I need to forgive on a deeper level or let go of some offense or resentment that I wasn’t even aware was in me til I started to pray!   I know intercession is important, but sometimes I need to be reminded just how important it really is.

Psalm 106:30
Then Phinehas [the priest] stood up and interceded, And so the plague was halted.
We need to remember that intercession can stop a disaster!
Job 22:30
“He will even rescue the one [for whom you intercede] who is not innocent; And he will be rescued through the cleanness of your hands.”
Did you know that you can confess and repent for someone else?  This seems to be especially effective in the current season we are in.

Hebrews 7:25

Wherefore also he is able to save to the uttermost them that draw near unto God through him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.

Jesus intercedes for us!  We are suppose to model His behavior, so that makes interceding a beautiful gift and privilege of salvation.

What an honor to be able to move heaven and earth for another person, country or people group.

What has God been calling you to intercede on behalf of lately?  I would love to hear from you!

Be Blessed

  1. What a “right now”message! Intercession has been the peace in the midst of the storm. ..the calm in the midst of chaos ..and the strength that builds the inner man as you lift others and their circumstances before the throne. Believing God for others miraculously removes your own personal cares and concerns while watching God move on someone else’s behalf. The youth…leadership in the church and our nation has been the focus this past week..Looking to Jesus who is the author and finisher of our faith.

    • Great Point, Debra Ann! If we are self-focused, it’s not going to be easy to intercede but if we are others focused, we will be able to more readily get our eyes off of our own circumstances while doing God’s business in the throne room!
