As I headed out the door this morning to run, I never expected to run into an adorable, fluffy, white dog like this guy! As I passed one of many retention ponds in the development behind mine, I spotted her sniffing through the weeds and puddles left from this weekend’s snowfall.
At first she barked at me as I carefully approached her and held out my hand. Then her curiosity got the best of her and she came right to me. As I felt through her thick fur I discovered that she was not wearing a collar. There were so many houses nearby that I could not have even begun to guess where she came from or if she had come from another neighborhood! I looked at her and asked her one simple question…..”Where’s home?” She looked at me as if she knew exactly what I was talking about and began to walk back toward my neighborhood. I continued to ask her where her home was until we ended up in her back yard. By the time the owner opened the front door, that little doggie was ready to be back in the comfort and safety of the place where she knew she belonged.
As I stepped off the stranger’s porch to continue my run, this verse came to my spirit:
If I am in charge, I’ll be wandering off the path just like that little, curious doggy. I don’t know about you, but I daily need to be reminded that my home is in the heaven and not on the earth.
