This post might challenge your theology a bit! I have a new (new to me) concept that I love because I feel as though it really lines up with what God is doing with His people right now. We have been hearing many prophetic voices reminding us that judgement comes to the house of the Lord first. Here is the scripture reference:
1 Peter 4:17 For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?
Many of us have been in a time of pressing in regularly with the Lord to honor Him by getting as clean as possible. I am not talking about striving to be perfect, but allowing the Holy Spirit to expose the areas we need to confess/repent in order to get fine tuned in this hour.
When we get saved, our spirit is regenerated. Must of us know and understand that. What about the rest of our being? We are a multi-faceted being. I love this explanation from http://www.gotquestions.org :
Genesis 1:26-27 indicates that there is something that makes humanity distinct from all the other creations. Human beings were intended to have a relationship with God, and as such, God created us with both material and immaterial parts. The material is obviously that which is tangible: the physical body, bones, organs, etc., and exists as long as the person is alive. The immaterial aspects are those which are intangible: soul, spirit, intellect, will, conscience, etc.
With that said, most of us understand that when the Holy Spirit came in upon salvation, our spirit is good to go! What about the rest of our body? Well, we still have trouble with our flesh, our thoughts, our free will, etc. If we were totally regenerated from head to toe upon salvation, we would be perfect. We all know that none of us are perfect. If we were, we would be able to control our tongue.
James 3:2New Living Translation (NLT)
2 Indeed, we all make many mistakes. For if we could control our tongues, we would be perfect and could also control ourselves in every other way.
My aha moment in a counseling session came a few weeks ago. This beautiful believer was dealing with oppression and depression due to an experience that was causing condemnation, shame, guilt, etc. As we prayed, I felt the Holy Spirit ask her to invite Him into her brain, her mind and thoughts. You see the Holy Spirit is a gentleman. He won’t go where He hasn’t been invited. In that moment we witnessed immediate relief for her and I was so excited about it, after she left I invited the Holy Spirit to have total access to my everything!! I don’t know about you, but I need Him to take over every cell in my body so I can be what He has called me to be.
I noticed a heightened awareness of my unhealthy thoughts (presented to me in a gentle, Holy Spirit way). For me, It was the next level of taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. There is no striving to do it right in my own strength, just God showing up to give me the heads up so I can change my thoughts.
I am someone who will eagerly share a concept with a few people and then get feedback on how the concept has affected their life. The results have been amazing. Those who haven given me follow up results have been amazed at how much more positive their thoughts have been and how peaceful they feel. The total access prayer has become a regular part of my prayer life. Why would I pray that prayer more than one time? I live in a sinful world where I can unknowingly lose some ground that I had previously gained. It has been a great way for me to allow God to bring judgement to my house first according to 1 Peter 4:7. There is no standing still. We are either gaining territory or losing it all the time.
The bottom line is that God wants all of us, not just our spirit! Life is so much easier when we grant Him total access to everything we are and everything we have.
