Six Most Important Things I Learned Since January 1st – Part 3

The lessons that were driven home in me in the months of May and June were biggies!  Today I am sharing May’s insight and would love your feedback!  I have been holding back posting this one and in light of this weeks’ news, now I understand why.  You see, May’s lesson was about the Duggar scandal.  I don’t know about you, but I watched it bring out the best and the worst in believers.

This scandal seemed to split the body of Christ down the middle in a way that I have not seen in many years.  I expect the non-believers to go for the jugular and use that old cliche’ “They call themselves Christians”.  They don’t understand that we know we aren’t perfect, we are simply forgiven.  Many non-believers think that we all think we are perfect and live our lives to point fingers at others.  I understand why they would immediately go after believers when sin comes to the surface.  What saddened me that day was the Christians who immediately started trashing the Duggars on social media.  Do I think they were wrong for covering up everything and not getting help when Josh was young? YES!!!  Do we all make bad decisions sometimes?  YES!!!

As I witnessed this trashing for weeks, I came to two conclusions.  The first one was that this is an area of immaturity in their (the believers who posted tons of junk about the Duggars) walk with Christ.  Our first line of defense should always be to pray for the people involved in the scandal.  They need our prayers during a rough time more than anything else!  Isn’t that what we would need if it was our family in that position?  The second reaction we should have is to ask the Lord if there is anything else we should be doing to insure that the same does not happen in our own family.  I am sure the Holy Spirit would not tell any of us to plaster their faces all over Facebook and Twitter and tell people how awful these believers are.

I don’t know about you, but I have a Holy fear of reaping what I sow.  Sometimes I think we forget about these very familiar, yet important verses:

Galatians 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.

Luke 6:31 And just as you want men to do to you, you also do to them likewise.

The other realization I had was that these believers may need emotional healing due to a similar incident happening in their own life or in the lives of someone in their family.  That is why it hit them so hard that they had to be verbal on social media.  They have anger about the issue because it hits close to home.  Either way, forgiveness and healing need to take place so that their first response is coming from a place of compassion.

Matthew 14:14 And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.

Matthew 18:33 Should you not also have had compassion on your fellow servant, just as I had pity on you?’

I am moved with compassion for those believers who threw the Duggars under the bus and am praying for their healing.

If we feel compelled to weigh in on a subject, we must make sure we have all of the facts first.  I responded to a non-believer on day 1 of the postings and I did not have all of the facts.  I had to immediately remove my comment and back away from the discussion.  I learned my lesson and hopefully will never repeat that mistake again.

In light of this weeks news about Josh’s porn issue and infidelity, I believe he is struggling with a sex addition.  I am so glad that all of this has finally come out.  I am praying that if anything else needs to come out, that it will be exposed quickly for the sake of his wife.  Healing can not take place until everything is in the light. If anything is being covered up for the sake of damage control,  I pray that it all comes into the light quickly!   I am praying for this family daily and am hoping that their public lives will cause many to receive healing.  Will you commit to praying for this family at least until the end of this year?
